Michael Nelson was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant. After graduating Bishop England High School in 1997 Michael attended College of Charleston and earned his degree in Political Science in 2001. He then attended the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.
Michael’s legal career began in 2004 when he accepted a position with the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Charleston as an Assistant Solicitor. Michael’s primary case load when he began at the Solicitor’s office focused on DUI/DUAC and traffic offenses. From there Michael started to prosecute a wide range of cases that included everything from DUI/DUAC and drug offenses to Armed Robbery and Murder.
Michael left the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s in 2013 and credit’s it with giving him a unique insight into the criminal justice system. During his time there Michael was able to see all stages of the criminal justice system.
